I study Spanish and Portuguese. For me, Spanish is slightly easier to learn than Portuguese. I plan on becoming fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. I know that learning one will help me in learning the other. I love the sound of Portuguese, so the unique sounds are not a deterrent.
I highly recommend buying this audiobook. The parallel translation really works.

This was my second Portuguese learning audiobook.
The pace was fast and you would have to come back often to keep track. Overall, it’s a good book, but you have to be really focused to really get though it.
It’s much easier if you follow with the book that comes with it.
